Monster High's Elusive Cupid Giveaway! (Now Closed)

Giveaway is now closed to new entries--winning names are posted, above!
(May the 4th be with you!)
It's been raining in Maine for what feels like forever.  It's good for the flowers, I know, but after a while, it gets kind of old.  To cheer things up, I decided to do a giveaway!  The Monster High poll is now closed.  Thank goodness.  The all-caps heading on that poll was giving me a headache.  Anyway, with a healthy 64% of the vote, Cupid won the distinction of being the hardest Monster High doll to find in stores.  This isn't surprising, really, since she's a Valentine's Day themed doll exclusive to Walmart.  Skull Shores Frankie got second place, but if the five zillion Skull Shores Frankie dolls at my local Toys R Us right now are any indication, that information is slightly out of date.

I managed to get my hands on a Cupid the other day.  Here she is--and she could be yours!

Monster-High-Cupid
Monster High C.A. Cupid
First of all, I have no idea what the "C.A." in her name stands for.  I'd love to know, if anyone has the scoop on that.

I removed her from the outer box so I could share a few pictures with everyone without the glare from the plastic window, but I'm going to put her right back in the box so she looks brand new for whoever wins her!  She has a great face.  I like it much better in person than I did looking at pictures online.

She has tiny heart-shaped sparkles in her eyes!
She's wearing some sort of dart-shooting apparatus on her hand.
The lower parts of her limbs are black with cool white lacy designs.

She has a heart-shaped purse with black dripping off of it--very strange!
Her wings look very interesting--almost steampunk:

Her hair is pinker than it looks in this picture.
I love the vintage look of pink and black together, and the dripping
black paint (blood?) around the waistline is cool.

Cupid comes with a stand, but no pet and no diary.  Her shoes look great next to her black feet:

So, how can you win her?  I am not an expert at online giveaway contests or anything, but here's what I came up with:

1. Make a post in the comment section saying what your very favorite doll or toy is and why.  This will be fun for everyone to read, and it'll get you entered in the giveaway.

2. Be sure you have a Google identity so I can make sure I am mailing the right doll to the right person.  I can't accept "Anonymous" entries because they are...anonymous.  Sorry.

3. Next Friday, I will put all of the entered names together and draw the winning name out of a hat without peeking!  Maybe I'll even have a little video of the name being drawn right here on the blog.

4. You can comment as many times as you want, but I will only enter each name once.

I'll actually draw three names out of a hat because I have Operetta:

And Sweet 1600 Frankie Stein:

As runner-up prizes.  Sound fun?  And if only three people enter, then everyone's a winner!  Let's say you win first place and want Operetta instead of Cupid--no problem.  Then the second place winner can choose between Franke and Cupid, and so forth.

I'd get the ball rolling by telling you my favorite doll and why, but you already probably know who it is.

  1. This is such a cute giveaway. Hey I wanna play along too!!!

My favorite dolls are barbie. I don't know what it is about that doll but she has held my interest ever since I was a child. I love the different hair colors, skin colors, eye colors, fashions, ect!!!

    1. One of the things that I have always admired about Barbie is exactly what you said--how she can hold the attention of collectors throughout all stages of life. Quite an accomplishment!

  2. Oh how fun!! (^_^) I am a Barbie girl. I think I got my first Barbie when I was 3 years old, and I never looked back. A lot of other little girls played with baby dolls and I was hooked on Barbie. Why would I play mommy all the time when I could be a movie star, or an astronaut? Given, they could be mommies on top of that, but I just wasn't into the baby doll thing. Barbie could go anywhere, do anything, and be anyone. Interestingly enough, I am 27 and still have no children. I think I see a bit of a pattern. LOL (^_^)

  3. I am loving LIV dolls right now! I know that a lot of people had an issue with the monotony of only one face mold, but even with that drawback they are still so customizable and fun. Plus I love their proportions, not normal but not quite big-heads (compared to some other dolls).

  4. Not sure if I qualify for the giveaway, since I got one of the Skull Shores Frankies that were being given away earlier. Regardless, I'd like to add my stories. It's hard to narrow down a single favorite, so here are a few I adore. (Plus links to my flickr photos, so you can see the toys)

    1. Jude Deveraux Barbie - I've uncreatively named my doll Jude, and she is my favorite of all my dolls. She has half-open eyes and slightly parted lips, which lends to expressions of serenity, dreaming, and affection for others. I originally wanted the Deveraux giftset for the Ken and for Barbie's dress, but the Barbie won my heart in the end.

    2. "Spanky" bear from Gund - My mom and I have matching "Spanky" bears; hers is brown and named Gus, and mine is white and named Since. I've had "Since" since childhood, though the story behind her origins and name aren't completely clear. She's a "big" bear, big enough to hug and snuggle, and my cats have loved to knead her belly over the years.

    3. Flippity Beanie Buddy from Ty - Again uncreatively named "Bunny", this Beanie Buddy (larger version of the Beanie Babies) was a present for my 14th birthday. She's become a close friend of "Since" the bear, since the combination of the two is ideal for when I sleep on my side.

    4. Fisher Price farm playset sheep - Family legend says that my dad can talk to sheep. On a road trip, he stopped by some sheep and baa'd at them, and they baa'd back; mom swears they were having a conversation. I guess the association of sheep with my dad leads to my love of this sheep toy.

    1. Hi Elizabeth! You definitely qualify. Thank you for sharing so many great dolls and toys! I had those sheep too!!! LOVE THEM! Did you have the whole barn?

Now I want that Jude Deveraux Barbie, too. She is really lovely, although she looks much better in your real life photos than in the promotional photos, so I'm not sure I ever would have noticed her without seeing your pics! Gorgeous doll.

I love the name Since. Kids come up with the greatest names if you just let them go. My eldest tried to name his Fisher Price pull along puppy "Thunder," but it came out as "Funter," and so we just always called the dog Funter. :)

  5. Oh my, you want me to narrow down a favorite! Wow that is a tall order. But my current favorite is probably my Skull Shores Abbey. She just has so much attitude and spunk! Someone on Flickr mentioned she had a Marilyn Monroe-esque feeling and I totally understand that!

I will always love Barbies, but the complete uniqueness that is Monster High has totally won my heart!!!

  6. Hello! Thank you for giving free dolls away! My favorite kind of dolls would probably have to be Monster High dolls! (lol) I really like how Mattel uses his creativeness to make them! I love the Skull Shores Frankie you gave me! Thank you! I did like pullips too though.

  7. Exciting! I think I would probably choose Operetta instead of Cupid though, she's very pretty but I don't understand the dripping black all over her.

My most cherished doll is a cloth Rapunzel that my grandma made. I still have her and she's in surprisingly good condition for how much play she got, pretty sure her eyes had to be reglued a couple times!

    1. I don't understand the black, either! I tried to look it up, but didn't find anything. Maybe monsters have black blood? Operetta is one of my favorites.

There's nothing like a unique doll made just for you. Rapunzel sounds wonderful. I'm glad you still have her!

  8. Favorite doll... Well I'll have to say it's Pink Splendor Barbie. I've loved that doll ever since I discovered Collector Barbies in 1996. I remember I went online while my parents were away and I just went like "WOW! That's the most amazing, pink, perfect doll!". Unfortunately I still don't have her as I always spend money on other dolls (Ops!) but I promised myself that this Christmas or next year I'll get her no matter what!

    1. I had to Google Pink Splendor (I am not a Barbie expert). She is amazing! What an incredible dress. You'd need a whole shelf to show her off! I hope you get one some day. :)

I´m not participating on the giveaway contest, but i love your blog and i´d like to share my experience. I´m a spanish boy and since i was a child i am in love with dolls (specially Barbie). I had to hide it as I bought several dolls (saving every little penny for that), playing with them with my little brother and my everlasting friend, Victor. We played and had lot of fun, but in Europe there wasn´t a wide variety of friends (no black friends, just Kira and some Steffies, here named "Laura").
If i have to decide who is my favorite, I´d say Laura Fragance (on the US, Perfume Pretty Whitney). I still remember the first time i saw her, on her frilly glory, and oh my, those pouty lips...
I still have her almost perfect, and with Kayla is my all time favorite and i´m still looking for some more...

  13. I just stumbled upon your blog today and what a refreshing surprise it was! I've been looking for a doll blog for quite some time and the humor around here makes me look forward to your new posts. Thank you!

I have just recently got into doll collecting. But my favorite doll is still my first: a Little Apple Doll named Irae. She is a little over a foot tall with long jet black hair and is dressed in a black and red swirled kimono. It was her face that got me though, in that there was none at all. Nothing but black divots for eyes set against a white and featureless face. She's a tad creepy and she scares my friends, but I love her.

    1. I'm in trouble now. You had me at "black divots for eyes." I had never heard of the Little Apple dolls, but they're fascinating! One of them is on her way here as I type. Thank you for introducing me to something new!

  14. Wow, what a generous give-away!! :D My favorite doll... that is hard! Right now I'm fascinated with Monster High and Liv, because they're both so new to me. Moxie Teenz are great too. My favorite Liv is the first wave Katie I bought in January at the Goodwill, because she reignited my doll collecting obsession. If it wasn't for her all my dolls would still be in storage. My favorite Monster is ... I'll say Dawn of the Dance Clawdeen because I LOVE her green hair and tights.

A couple weeks ago I noticed Cupid's shelf tag is no longer on the local Walmart shelf but maybe, if they're actually getting any Cupids in stock, they put her with the other Sweet 1600 dolls.

I googled info on her name, her fact card says: “I use my initials because my name is scary long, hideously unpronounceable and you know you’re just going to call me ‘cupid’ anyway.” —C.A. Cupid

  15. I've been a Barbie fan since I was a kid but when Monster High came in, everything changed. I have about 5 Barbie Collector's Edition Dolls but I gave them to my niece a couple of years ago.

When Monster High was released in 2010, I desperately searched the stores here but to no avail, they weren't available. I have about 5 Monster High dolls today and I would love to win one of your giveaway prizes.

My absolute favorite doll? Hmmm, it's really hard to choose between these MH ghouls because I really love ALL OF THEM! Their uniqueness has really captured me. I guess it's safe to say that I'm addicted to Monster High.

Oh, and believe it or not, I came across Monster High while searching for Bratz dolls in 2010. I've just read that the former Bratz collectors prefer the new Mattel released Monster High when the 10th anniversary Bratz dolls released by MGA didn't really spur out their tagline "Girls with a passion for fashion."

So after reading the comments about Monster High, I began researching and thought "What are these dolls like? I just have to know." Then, the rest is history after seeing some MH doll photos posted on the internet. The webisodes really sold me out on them too!

Included my email on the entry. Thank you so much!

I've always liked disney doll, my mum got me my first disney doll when I was 5 and it was an Ariel mermaid doll!
I think the reason why I like disney dolls is because of sentimetal reasons, because my mum go it for me and because the disney doll had been with me through alot. Right now, my fac disney doll is Disney Animator's collection Snow white child doll. She is very cute, comes with a very detailed dress and the hair do si just adorable. She have a 2D plush pet and very cute shoes etc. Snow white is my favourite princess, I just adore her voice and I love her hair. I like how you can tell the child doll is snow white without looking at the tag, here is a picture:

  18. I don't know why but my previous comment was removed... =( So I'm entering my name again... ^_^

My absolute favorite dolls are all of the Monster High dolls. I've been an MH addict since 2010 but only recently started collecting them. I don't have all dolls and winning the elusive Cupid would be great. I absolutely love all of them because each one is unique. They embody someone in real life and almost every fan can relate to one of the characters of Monster High.

I, for one, is closely linked to Frankie's positive attitude no matter what the situation is. Sometimes I can be a drama queen like Cleo too but who isn't, right? We all have those times.

So, anyway, this is my entry. I already created a Blogger account to make sure my comment won't be deleted. Thank you for creating this amazing giveaway.

  19. Well, a lot of course, but mostly Tonner dolls form Tonnerdoll and from Wilde Imagination and Monster high dolls. I'm very influenced by the Master TIM BURTON and his creativity and imagination...so I love "the dark side" dolls with a hint of a goth or unearthly spirit :) I love bjd dolls, only they are quite expensive... unfortunately. I have my first Cami doll, the brunette curly haired basic & I'm so in love with her beauty. She is, I think, my No 1 lately.

Hope, a Monster High sister can join her, soon. Would be really lovely. Thank you for the chance :)

  20. I mostly collect action figures but recently there had been some release of BJD action figures too so they're more likely dolls now. Dolls for the big boys maybe. But I also like how Monster High dolls are made, especially the guy dolls.

They're not like Ken dolls which are viewed as one of the accessories of Barbie. The Monster High dudes are as manly as they can get. I actually have a Deuce Gorgon doll. I think it's a Dawn of the Dance doll with his snake hair on one side.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh--you're lucky to have Deuce! He is one of the best, I think. I saw the new Jackson at the store the other day and would have gotten one, but they all had black marks on their faces. :( I agree that the Monster High guys can stand alone. I have Gil and think he is incredible--with or without Lagoona.

      Delete
    2. Good for you! I've been looking for Gil for quite some time but everyone selling them online are asking for ridiculously high prices. I'm not paying $100 for a $12 doll.

I just wish Gil could sway away for a little from Lagoona in the series. Lagoona is way more boy crazy than any of the other ghouls on the cartoons, even Cleo (who doesn't hang onto Deuce's every move, by the way).

Lagoona's always "Gil hasn't responded back to my message" or "Gil didn't call me all summer" or "Gil has been transferred to another school because his parents don't like me" and so on and so forth.

Just like in the Skull Shores movie, Deuce and Clawd went together on the same camp and there are times when you see Deuce hanging out with Jackson in the halls of MH. For Gil though, I haven't seen him with other guys.... It's always Lagoona.

  24. My favorite would have to be the Monster High Dolls. It all came on a whim when my girlfriend was interested in them but wasn't sure until I found Ghoulia (Dead Tired, I believe) at work and told her about it. Since then I've been helping her collect them since.

The more interested she became the more I did as well, always had an interest in monsters, horror and the "Darker" side of things and just the attention to detail, little quirks and cool little references in each detail caught my attention and that's what did it for me.

We're currently trying to find Rochelle Goyle but no luck so far =(. She also wanted me to add that she loves your reviews, she's been having a good time with your Fab Faces of Kennedy review today.

  31. I saw this post way too late for the adorable giveaway, but if anyone's still wondering about what the C.A. stands for I have an answer straight from the monster high wiki! :) Here it is:

C.A. Cupid, full name Chariclo Arganthone Cupid, is the adoptive daughter of Eros, the god of love in Greek mythology. She first appeared as part of the Sweet 1600 doll line. C.A. Cupid debuted in the television special "Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love?", in which she is voiced by Erin Fitzgerald.
